Through-Hole & Mixed-Technology Assembly

THT & Mixed
Technology

Connectors, power components, and mechanically-stressed parts still need through-hole strength. We run wave and selective soldering alongside our SMT lines for boards that combine both technologies on a single assembly.

Built for Boards That
Need to Take a Beating

Connectors, transformers, relays, and power components are frequently through-hole for a reason — mechanical strength. Our THT capability covers wave soldering for high-volume boards and selective soldering for dense, mixed-technology assemblies where SMT and THT components sit side by side.

Wave Soldering

High-throughput wave soldering for THT-heavy boards and connector-dense assemblies.

Selective Soldering

Programmable selective soldering for mixed-technology boards where SMT components must be protected.

Manual Through-Hole Insertion

Hand-insertion for low-volume or mechanically complex THT components ahead of soldering.

Mixed-Technology Sequencing

SMT reflow first, THT insertion and selective solder second — sequenced to protect both processes.

Post-Solder Inspection

Visual and, where specified, X-ray inspection of THT joints for hidden defects.

Conformal Coating Compatible

THT and mixed-tech boards can move directly into conformal coating for harsh-environment use.

Discuss Your Board

THT & Mixed Technology — FAQs

Can you combine SMT and THT on the same board?

+

Yes, this is one of our most common jobs — SMT reflow runs first, followed by through-hole insertion and wave or selective soldering.

When should I use selective soldering instead of wave?

+

Selective soldering is better suited to boards where SMT components are already placed nearby and need to be protected from the solder wave, or where only specific THT joints need soldering.

Do you inspect through-hole joints?

+

Yes — visual inspection is standard on every board, with X-ray inspection available for hidden or high-reliability joints on request.

What's a typical lead time for a mixed-technology run?

+

It depends on volume and component mix, but most mixed-tech production runs are quoted with the same lead times as standard large-volume assembly — ask us for a specific estimate.
